HELP for MAC downloads! *

About the MAC downloads

As these are flash files, some versions of the Apple Safari browser will not play them, or play them all at once.

The files are not quicktime .mov files, as those are just too big, but are in a flash format.  They come down as a zip file.  After extracted, you click the file with the .html extension to play the others.  I use your browser to play your local files... so you are NOT on the internet... it only looks like it by using your browser.  However some later versions of the SAFARI browser do not support flash files.

As a result, you may have videos all play at the same time with no control, or not show up but instead you may see some blank video placeholders.  If this is the case, the best solution for this is to download Google Chrome, which should play the files fine and is now available for a MAC.

It's free, simple and quick to install.  They have it for macs now... get it here  Google Chrome for MACs

Popular Questions

My screen has no videos or blank boxes instead of the videos.

The most common reason is that you have clicked to open the .zip file, and have not really unzipped it.  Even though you see a directory of the files, this will not work.  Instead righ-click on the zip file and "Extract All" or use another method to "unzip" the file.  Another less common reason is that your browser may have tried to block the "active content".  If a yellow bar popped up at the top of your window, click on it and select "Allow ... ".

My downloaded file is corrupt.  What should I do?

Download it again.  You have access to the download for 24 hours from the time of purchase.  After that please email tom@playguitarsolos.com and the link(s) can be resent.

Quick Summary

Download the .zip file.  Extract the files.  Double-click the .html file.

In other words, your download file should be unzipped into mutliple files, but you only should click on the .html file.  This will play the others automatically.

Detailed Steps

1) Select SAVE, not open.

When you download your file, a Windows box will ask you to Open or Save the file.  Be sure to select SAVE to permanently save the file to your computer.  The link will only be active for 24 hours.  After this time you will need to contact me if you haven't saved your files.  You only need to download (save) it once.

2) Remember where you save the file.

The file you download will have a .zip extension.  Pay attention to where you save it on your computer, so you can access it in the following steps.  You also will always want to keep this file if you wish to install it on another machine.

3) EXTRACT the files, don't just open them.

Find the zip file you saved on your computer.  Some computers may unzip the file automatically for you.  In this case you may skip to the next step.  Otherwise, unzip the .zip file.   Do not just double-click it and expect it to work.  Although Windows will 'open' it for directory viewing this way, this is not truly opened.  To play the video, you will need to EXTRACT the files from the zip file.  To do this, right-click on the file and select "Extract All".  Then select Next and pay attention to where you tell Windows to extract them.  Most likely this will be in the same directory with the original .zip file, which is fine.  Note: After extracting, I recommend moving the .zip file somewhere else for safekeeping, and to avoid the confusion of clicking it again later.  It can be confusing because the directory will have the same name as the .zip file after it is extracted.

3) Double click the file with the .html extension.

Even if you see more than one file, you only need to click the .html file.  This will open your Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you are using) and play the videos for you.  It will appear as though you are on the internet, but you are actually viewing the files on your own PC.

4) About the TAB.

If you would like to view or print the tab, other than just watching it on the video, your video screen will have a link to the tab, OR you will find a file with a .pdf extension in the list of files that were extracted from the zip file.  Just double-click the .pdf file to view and/or print the tabs.  If your computer does not already have Adobe Acrobat installed (unlikely), you can get it here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html

5) Making the video BIGGER !!!

If you are using Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, look in the lower right hand corner of your browser.  There is a zoom button (magnifying glass and "%") in the lower right hand corner of your browser.  You can increase the size using this.  You can try it now, on this page.  A great shortcut is to hold 'Ctrl' and press "+" repeatedly to increase the size, and Ctrl "-" to decrease it.  It works great with the flash videos and tab, to get the video to just the right size for your resolution.

6) Put it on a CD or another computer !!!

After extracting your zip file to a directory, simply copy that entire directory with all it's files to a CD or another computer.  Then find the .html file on it, and just double-click it to play.  Alternatively, you can copy the zip file to another computer and extract it there.
